01 / Shop by discipline

What do you need for each leg of a triathlon?

Swim needs a wetsuit or race suit, goggles and a bright cap. Bike needs a helmet, eyewear and a watch or computer. Run needs a race belt and quick laces. Race day ties it together with lube, a changing mat and nutrition. Each colour below is one leg of the race, and it follows you through the shop.

Which Orca wetsuit should I buy?

Start from the water, not the price tag. Below 16°C, buy warmth. Between 16 and 24.5°C, buy for your swimming: Float if your legs sink, Flex if you already sit high, Flow if you are chasing time. Above 24.5°C you race in a trisuit or race suit. Four answers, one suit, with the sizes we have in stock today.

What is the difference between Orca's Float, Flex and Flow wetsuits?

Orca names each wetsuit after the job it does. Float adds buoyancy for swimmers whose legs sink, Flex frees the shoulders for strong swimmers, and Flow sits between the two. Athlex is the mid range and Apex is Orca's top tier. This season's prices are up to $349 off.

Float

Extra buoyancy through the hips and legs. Best if you are newer to open water or your legs sink.

Athlex Float from $315

Flex

A stretchier upper for swimmers with a strong stroke who already sit high in the water.

Athlex Flex from $360

Flow

Balanced buoyancy and reach for confident swimmers chasing a faster split.

Which Garmin is best for triathlon?

For most age-groupers, the Forerunner 265 ($799) does everything a triathlon needs. Step up to the Forerunner 970 ($1,399) for maps and a flashlight, or the fēnix 8 (from $1,699) for the toughest build. All four below record swim, T1, bike, T2 and run as one activity.

Which Oakley sunglasses and helmet suit triathlon?

Go big on the lens. A shield like the Sutro (from $213.95) or Sphaera ($341) still covers your eyes when you lift your head in the aero position, and Prizm Road lenses sharpen the road surface. Pair it with an ARO helmet from $184.95.

07 / Race kit lists

What kit do I need for a sprint, Olympic, 70.3 or IRONMAN triathlon?

The core kit is the same at every distance: wetsuit, goggles, helmet, eyewear, race belt. What changes is comfort and data. A sprint kit from TriShop costs $276.98; a full IRONMAN kit with a Forerunner 970 costs $2,626.99. Pick a distance to see every item, why it is there and the total.

08 / Who we are

Who chooses what TriShop stocks?

TriShop is a Melbourne triathlon store run by people who race. The range is chosen by triathletes who swim in Port Phillip Bay and ride the bay roads before work, so every product has to earn its place in a real training week.

That is why the range is narrow on purpose: three brands we trust across the three disciplines, plus the small things that save time in transition.

09 / Honest advice

When is TriShop the wrong shop?

We would rather you buy the right thing somewhere else than the wrong thing here. Three cases where we are not your best option.

Not for you if

You only race in warm water

If your races are in Queensland or the Top End in summer, the water is often above 24.5°C. A $159 race suit may be all you need; a $650 wetsuit would sit in the cupboard.

See the race suit

Not for you if

Garmin price is your only filter

We sell Garmin at full price. During a big retail sale, a department store may be cheaper on the same watch. What you get from us is triathlon set-up advice from people who race.

Compare the watches

Not for you if

You surf more than you swim

A triathlon wetsuit is built for swimming: buoyant legs and stretchy shoulders. It is the wrong suit for duck-diving and sitting on a board. If you surf, look at Orca's surf range instead.

10 / Questions

Triathlon gear questions, answered

Straight answers to what we are asked most before race season. Still stuck? Contact the team.

Is shipping free?

Free shipping applies to orders of $200 or more in full-price items. Items up to 5% off RRP count as full price; sale and clearance items don't count toward the $200. An order that doesn't reach $200 in full-price items pays a single flat rate of $16.45 (including GST). Orca and Hiru products and wetsuits ship direct from our supplier.

How should a triathlon wetsuit fit?

Snug everywhere, with no water pockets at the lower back and a collar that sits flat without choking. Work the legs up first so the crotch sits high; most "tight shoulders" are a suit sitting too low. Orca sizes by height and weight, so start with the Orca sizing guide.

When can I wear a wetsuit in a triathlon?

At IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races, age-groupers can wear a wetsuit when the water is 24.5°C or colder. Between 24.5°C and 28.8°C the race may allow wetsuits in a separate wave, without age-group awards or qualifying slots; above 28.8°C they are not allowed. The call is made on race morning from the measured water temperature. Triathlon Australia and World Triathlon races use their own bands, so check your athlete guide.

Which Garmin watches have a triathlon profile?

The Forerunner 265, 570 and 970 and the fēnix 8 all have a triathlon profile that records swim, T1, bike, T2 and run as one multisport activity, with transitions timed separately. Choose the Forerunner 970 or fēnix 8 if you also want maps and a built-in LED flashlight.

What do I wear when wetsuits are not allowed?

Your trisuit or race suit, which you swim, ride and run in. A thin non-neoprene swimskin over the top cuts drag where the race allows it. A neoprene suit, even a short one, counts as a wetsuit.

Which sunglasses work best for triathlon?

A large shield lens, such as the Oakley Sutro or Sphaera, still covers your eyes when you lift your head in the aero position and stays put on the run. For dawn starts, a clear-to-black photochromic lens adapts as the sun comes up.

What payment options are available?

Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards, processed securely through Westpac PayWay. TriShop does not accept American Express or Diners Club.

Can I get advice before I buy?

Yes. TriShop sells one-on-one triathlon coaching consultations, and the team answers sizing and kit questions by email before you order.
